'Before Taxes' is yU's debut solo effort and brings his stoic philosophical style of artistic Hiphop to the table over solidly constructed production from Oddisee, Kev Brown, Slimkat78, and himself. Gilles Peterson noticed his work last year and included the beautiful track 'Fine' on his 'Brownswood Bubblers Four'. Here, yU combines arthouse mentality, with the hard edges of the streets and thoughtful reflection of an old soul.
